Category 3- Materials Environmental impact of materials Aim: To encourage the use of materials with lower environmental impacts over their life cycle. The production of Hemcrete ® sequesters at least 110kg of CO2 per m3 As this is a lightweight building material, impact from transportation is minimised. We expect Hemcrete ® to exceed the A+ specification rating for materials. 15 Responsible Sourcing Basic Elements Aim: To recognise and encourage the specification of responsibly sourced materials for the basic building elements It is developed using locally sourced Hemp that supports British agriculture. Hemp does not require agrochemicals in its cultivation, and is an ideal break crop. We would recommend Hemcrete ® to be used alongside other responsibly resourced materials such as sustainably produced timbers. 6 Responsible Source Finishing Elements Aim: To recognise and encourage the specification of responsibly sourced materials for the finishing elements. 3 Category 4- Surface Water run off Reduction of Surface Water run- off from site Aim: To reduce and delay water run- off from the hard surfaces of a housing development to public sewers and watercourses, thus reducing the risk of localised flooding, pollution and other environmental damage. Sustainable urban drainage systems are encouraged to manage water on site. Hemcrete ® is ideally suited for use alongside green roofs such as the sedum roofing used in the Adnams brewery Hemcrete ® development. Green roofs act to reduce surface water run off. 2 Flood risk2 Category 5- Waste Construction Site Waste Management Aim: To recognise the importance a Site Waste Management Plan has on the efficient use of resources during construction and demolition, and to promote the reduction and effective management of site waste. Any excess Hemcrete ® or spray run off on site can be re- fed into the spray production line, eliminating wasted materials. Hemcrete ® products come with minimal/ recyclable packaging and transported using recycled pallets. Sumatec ® compressed earth blocks may be considered as a use for waste earth on from site. 2 Household recycling facilities Composting facilities 4 1 T 01363 866999 M 07977 474120 Jubilee House, Cheriton Fitzpaine, Crediton, Devon.
