Its convenience, ease of application, reduced wastage and versatility make it easy to maintain a safe and hazard free construction site. As a ready mix material Hempire plaster is an easily worked material with attractive thermal properties and it compares favourably with conventional dry lining systems from both a material and cost perspective. Hempire coarse plaster can be used to improve insulation and to fill voids & gaps to level out the roughest walls to a flush surface. It is structurally durable and lightweight ( 25% of the weight of standard plasters when dry) due to its fibre reinforcement, remains flexible to movement and is crack resistant. The plaster is a flexible masonry and once dry the material is lightweight, typically 3.65kg per m2 of wall at 5mm. It is also versatile enough to allow parrgeting, where specific designs and patterns are created in the finish. Skim Plaster Hempire skim plaster amplifies and enhances the properties of building plaster, enabling a perfectly smooth finish. SMOOTH WARM TO TOUCH RAPID SETTING Hempire skim plaster, bonds well with the underlying surface maintaining damp controlling properties. The hemp fibre content is specially tailored to produce a finish comparable with modern internal finishing plasters. Although specifically designed to float over Hempire coarse plaster it is also suitable for application onto a variety of different substrates. The Hempire skim plaster can also be mixed with other materials such as pebbles and sand to generate a variety of textures and provide specific finishes customers may desire. Skim can also be used as a bonding agent for floor and wall tiles or with lime stable pigments and diluted with water as paint. For example, a half bucket of sand or pea gravel mixed with 20kg skim plaster generates a range of traditional render finishes for external walls. MOISTURE CONTROL Fully dried, porosity is typically in the range of 55- 60% depending on drying conditions and thickness. The plastered finish can absorb atmospheric moisture when humidity is high, and release it when the air is dry, helping to regulate interior ambient air quality and imparting a warm feel to the plaster. This not only provides improved insulation and acoustic properties but also helps to control the ambient humidity of a building, providing a solution to the common problem of condensation and mould where water vapour can build up with nowhere to go. Hempire coarse plaster is structurally reinforced with hemp fibres which have the additional purpose in moving moisture around via capillary action. The fibres help redistribute and wick away significant quantities of water. TESTING & CERTIFICATION Hempire coarse plaster has been tested at the University of Kingston which is one of the leading centres for masonry research and the BRE have also been engaged to evaluate specific properties of the base coat. The tests were conducted in accordance with the British Standards ( BS) appropriate for such materials. For test data and results please refer to the Technical Data Sheet Wall with Hempire Plaster as external render and plaster inside U- value = 0.270 Wall with sand : cement external render and plasterboard inside U- value = 0.276 Wall with no render and painted internal blockwork U- value = 0.299 This table illustrates the u- value for a brick external wall, insulated cavity and concrete block work inner wall with Hempire plaster applied in the first case ( the lower the u- value the better). For more specific details pls. refer to the Hempire Plaster Technical Data Sheet. THERMAL PROPERTIES Application of Hempire plaster not only provides the benefit of greatly improved coverage, but once the plaster is dry it has a thermal conductivity in the range of ~ 0.23- 0.26 W/ mK ( or better in certain conditions). Thermal conductivity, however, represents only part of the thermal benefits of Hempire plaster. Insulators such as Hempire Building plaster also possess thermal mass properties. This property allows the plaster to not only retain heat, but the material also holds and re- emits energy back into the living space as radiated heat. Hempire Plaster thus feels warm to the touch when dry and makes the rooms on the walls of which it is applied on feel warmer. Hempire external rendering and an internal plaster may also help wall structures to meet the requirements of the new, more stringent Building Regulations. In case of contact with eyes or skin, wash with clean running water and seek medical advice if discomfort persists. Avoid wet hands and gloves over prolonged periods. Keep hands dry. The packaging is sufficient to protect the product but once opened the product should be protected from getting wet/ drying out. Empty packaging and residues of plaster must be disposed of in accordance with local and national legislation at licensed waste facilities. turn over the mix the mix can be moistened to preference before application remove plaster from bag the plaster is ready to use direct from the bag, just open and pour. spraying Building plaster has been tested with concrete spraying equipment, and performed well. The plaster can be worked with a trowel to a smooth surface after spraying. forming The fiber reinforcement allows the plaster to be applied as an unusually good sculpting material, allowing relief work to be applied direct to windows & corners. working the plaster back After applying the plaster to the wall, the plaster can be allowed to partially cure, and be worked to a smoother, flatter finish. Due to its non slumping characteristics, the plaster stays exactly where it is put, the roughest of walls can be quickly rendered to a flush and level finish. Using a combination of building plaster and skim, huge discrepancies in wall level can be plastered over with no danger of shrinkage or cracking. filling Ideal for restoration work, it can quickly restore patchy, damp or broken walls to a structurally strong, dry wall. Apply at depths without moving or cracking leaving a hard wearing finish. insulation The plaster contains microscopic voids of air in its cured structure within the hemp, making the plaster an effective thermal insulator and fire retardant. apply to wall hempire can be applied at serious thicknesses to uneven walls, and once on the wall it doesn't move or slump. transfer to hawk hempire's consistency is stickier than the average plaster, making it a joy to handle corners and edging the sticky adhesion, non slumping and fibre reinforcement allow the plaster to be laid at thickness over and around obstacles, forming a tight bond with the material. Items such as power sockets and ducting can be structurally enclosed without cracks forming. " it just goes up and it doesn't budge, I've got it up to 50mm thick in places" - AD Holden APC, member of the Worshipful Company of Plasterers, UniBond award winner 2001 Setting & Drying Time Depending on the substrate type and ambient conditions, setting time of the plaster is typically less than 24 hours. Our results have shown the plaster to be hard with 24 hours when applied at 5- 7mm on most substrates such as brickwork or concrete in interior conditions at 20° C. However, when applied at 10mm or more on impervious substrates ( such as fully vitrified ceramic) the plaster will take up to 4 days to set. |
