Exclusive ? 35 FIRE Aries ( 21 March – 20 April) Aries is always on the go both mentally and physically which makes them natural sportsmen and women. They exercise vigorously, working up a tremendous sweat, which means they should be mindful to take on plenty of liquids. Competitive by nature, they need to find something to hold their interest. Exclusive'srecommendation: Pulse 8' s selection of 24 Express Exercise classes should keep you interested with a variety of 30- minute bursts of activity. Leo ( 21 July – 20 August) Leo is the sign of sports and recreation which makes them single minded in their quest to be the best! They should avoid pushing themselves too far when it comes to exercise ( see feature on page 38), although regular, aerobic activity is good for strengthening their physical weak area, the heart. Exclusive'srecommendation: make sure you take time out to rejuvenate that overworked body with a Celestial Pure Indulgence Body Massage ( members £ 48.94, guests £ 58.72). Sagittarius ( 21 November – 20 December) Whatever the season, this signs wants plenty of exercise, and preferably something that indulges their love of the great outdoors, like tennis, riding and skiing. Sagittarians can be accident prone, especially around the hip and thigh areas, and a tendency to take shallow breaths can be improved with yoga. Exclusive'srecommendation: improve your breathing by signing up to Hatha, Ashtanga or Flow yoga class at Pulse 8. Heaven sent fitness routines Continued on page 36... W hy is it that some people can happily pound up and down the swimming lanes while others need to feel the freedom of the great outdoors to get their exercise kicks? Others respond to the repetitive rhythm of a familiar gym workout while the person next to them needs to change their routine every few weeks. Is your taste in exercise a matter of genetics or is your future fitness mapped out at birth? As far back as 470BC, the Greek physician Hippocrates believed that the heavenly bodies affected a person's health and fitness. A medical diagnosis could best be determined by a person's birth map, or horoscope, and these beliefs continued late into the 17th century. So maybe the right way to find an activity to suit you is to first consider your astrological element – fire, earth, air and water – and either play to your strengths or sidestep your weaknesses. For example: if you're a fire sign you should literally ' heat' yourself up into a sweat to get the most out of your chosen fitness regime; earth signs get best results by exercising outdoors; the wind in their faces will spur an air sign on; and water signs ' should dive in' to get fit.

36 ? Exclusive EARTH Taurus ( 21 April – 20 May) A love of the good life makes this sign eager to indulge but slow to burn the calories off. A simple, regular exercise regime is the answer and their natural sense of rhythm makes dance classes a good choice. Once they're ' in the groove' their tenacious nature will make them stick to it. Exclusive'srecommendation: dance your way to fitness by choosing from Pulse 8' s Ballet and Street Dance, Ballroom, Aero- Dance or Argentine Tango classes. Virgo ( 21 August – 20 September) This sign likes to keep fit so exercising isn't a chore. If they can't get to a gym or fitness class, then a long, brisk walk or a period of relaxation or meditation every day is recommended to give their overactive mind a break. Winter team sports such as football and hockey are firm favourites. Exclusive'srecommendation: reach a higher state of relaxation with a floatation session in Nirvana Spa's unique Celestial Pool, prices start from £ 21.53 for members, £ 25.94 for guests. Capricorn ( 21 December – 20 January) Sore joints and stiff knees often put this sign off exercising but that is exactly what they need to banish the aches and pains! Although they are great climbers the best non- weight bearing activities to keep those limbs pumping is swimming and cycling. Exclusive'srecommendation: the large projector in the X- Bike Studio at Pulse 8 brings the outside indoors by displaying a variety of terrains. AIR Gemini ( 21 May – 20 June) Geminis run on nervous energy so exercise is a way to give their minds a rest! With a low boredom threshold, these people need to be kept entertained with frequent changes of fitness programme, workouts and classes. Make sure to concentrate on deep breathing to counteract your sign's weakness in the lungs. Exclusive'srecommendation: keep your interest level up by asking the Pulse 8 fitness instructors to review and rework your exercise regime on a regular basis. Libra ( 21 September – 20 October) People born under this sign should listen to their body clocks; limit exercise in the morning to gentle activities such as stretching and Pilates to strengthen their weak lower back and leave an intense workout for the evening. Librans love the atmosphere of a health club where they can indulge their need for peace and calm. Exclusive'srecommendation: spending time at Nirvana Spa – an Evening Spa starts at £ 63.62 – will leave you feeling cleansed and relaxed ( don't forget a stint on the heated loungers to soothe away twinges in your lower back). ... continued from page 35
