That's why a little fitness preparation is essential if you are to avoid injury and really enjoy a holiday on the slopes. Stacey Knight, Fitness Instructor, explained: " Downhill skiing and snowboarding require a good level of aerobic fitness as well as strength, balance and flexibility. To prepare yourself for these Winter sports you need a workout regime that combines all four elements." Aerobic fitness Also known as endurance or stamina, aerobic fitness refers to your body's capacity to exercise over a prolonged period of time. This is vital when it comes to skiing or snowboarding as it's your aerobic fitness that will help you get to the bottom of the slope! There are a number of ways to improve your aerobic fitness. In day- to- day life, take on a healthy mindset – for instance use stairs instead of the lift, get off the bus a stop early or walk to the supermarket instead of driving. Regular sessions of swimming, cycling or running will help to build your aerobic fitness and a number of classes available at Pulse 8 and Nirvana are great for building stamina – circuits is particularly good for anyone training for a winter sports holiday. |
